5 Movies That Bring Back The Inspiration

Alright here are 5 movies that I watch every once in awhile to keep me in check...
*these movies are more guy flicks than chick flicks...Top 5 chick flicks coming soon ;D

1. Man Over Material: Fight Club (1999)
This movie tells men to just be men. Forget all the Calvin Klein, Gucci, BMW's, and Blackberrys.
"Self improvement is masturbation"

2. Beating The Odds: Rudy (1993)
Always a classic. True story of an underdog. Even though I don't feel like an underdog, whenever I need motivation to study or bring back the passion missing in my life, I turn to this movie and watch how Rudy defies the odds by hardwork and perseverance.
"I wanted to run out of that Tunnell for my dad to prove to everyone that I worked..." Prove what?" "That I was somebody..."

3. Getting Back What's Yours:
Count of Monte Cristo (2002) / Shawshank Redemption
Count of Monte Cristo:"God has everything to do with it. He's everywhere. He sees everything."
Shawshank Redemption: "Get busy living...or get busy dying..."
4. The True Code Between Friends: 친구 "Friend" (2001)
Reminds me of who my true friends are and what they mean to me.
"친구끼리...미안한 거 없다.."
Translation: "There's nothing to be sorry between true friends..."

5. Christmas Spirit: Elf (2003)
Whenever I'm not in the Christmas spirit, I watch this movie...or just whenever I need to have a good laugh.
"It's just like Santa's workshop! Except it smells like mushrooms... and everyone looks like they wanna hurt me... "

Korean Dramas = More Real Life Drama

So lately people have been going crazy over this one Korean drama called 꽃보다 남자 or Boys Over Flowers...or whatever the direct translation is. Basically, the drama is about four friends who call themselves F4. They go to Shinhwa highschool which is this fancy private school for rich kids that looks more like a hotel resort than a school. Of course, there's that cute yet poor, strong-willed,  Korean girl who always says hwating! (or Fighting! aka Lets Do It!). Even her name sounds kind of odd. 금잔디or Golden Lawn in direct translation. Somehow she gets entangled in their lives after being transferred to this school for saving a student from committing suicide because he was being picked on by F4. While she goes to school, she gets the attention of F4, specifically to the leader 구준표(3rd guy from the left in the picture) or GooJoonPyo...the Richie Rich of all Richie Riches in Korea who finds her fascinating and at first, tries to make her life as miserable as possible so she would leave the school but instead, ends up having feelings for her. Long story short, Richie Rich falls in love with the poor Korean girl who then humbles him and begins to change the way he lives his spoiled life. Since of course, he is the richest Korean guy in all of Korea, he has his own island, drives a Black Lotus, has a private jet, and even shuts down malls so him and his girlfriend can go shopping. He dresses her up like a Barbie doll whenever they have formal events and even though she treats him like shit and talks to him like she owns him, he can only say "aeshi" and is completely helpless. I don't know what really happens because I was fed up with the girl after 8 or so episodes but my guess is Richie Rich and his girlfriend argue about something ridiculous or someone tries to interfere in their relationship which leads them to break up 99999times. Then cue in the "stand by me" song and he does something sweet and they get back together. This guy is the definition of FML (F*** My Life www.FML.com) for all Korean guys dating Korean girls. This drama corrupts Korean girls into wanting a 6'5 rich, good looking Korean dude, who just so happens to be at the mercy of this stubborn little girl whenever she bitches at him about something really stupid or something so ridiculous it could only really happen in Korean dramas. I guess girls, even guys, like watching this kind of show because it helps them escape reality. Girls think they can someday meet someone like Goo Joon Pyo and go live on fantasy island while guys watch it to see why girls watch it then end up hating themselves for becoming addicted to it. The drama has an interesting concept and was well made but everytime...I can't help it when Korean girls get so into this kind of entertainment that it leads them to think they can treat their boyfriends or guys in general this way. Which leads us to the conclusion... Korean Dramas= More Real Life Drama.

*Or maybe its just me. To be honest, I do enjoy Korean dramas every once in awhile but just as entertainment. :D

Tiger Wood's Return

I just had to write another post because I am currently watching The Masters on my day off school instead of actually going out to play golf on this beautiful day TT only because Tiger Woods much anticipated return happens at this event. If your still following me and haven't already drifted down towards the Son Dam Bi post already, I can honestly tell you, through 9 holes, I am not surprised at his performance (or people might call it a lack of performance). Think about it...Tiger's been out for about 10 months since his surgery last June and people expect him to win the Masters, where the best players around the world come out to win that coveted green jacket? I'm not saying I don't want him to win that jacket or come that much closer to making history by passing Arnold Palmer as the greatest golfer in history, but we can't criticize Tiger or his game just because he doesn't perform at 100% even though he says he's at 100%. Health wise, yes he is at 100%. Psychologically, I'd say he's starting over again at 50% only because he is and has been the #1 golfer in the world and because of his overall, gotta be #1, competitive nature. I mean, he's playing under the pressure of thousands, maybe millions, of fans who expect him to come out of the mist banging out a dominating performance at the Masters. All in all, I'm glad Tiger's back and I'm sure the rest of the golf world does as well because like they say, if you win any tournament without Tiger Woods somewhere on the scoreboard, it's like having an asterisk next to your name saying "Tiger Wasn't Playing."

Movie Review of NONONO..NOTORIOUS!

NOTORIOUS (2009)
This is a movie review of Notorious which is a biopic of Notorious B.I.G.. Probably one of the best biopics I've seen and I highly recommend watching it. I don't want to ruin the movie for you so I won't give you a summary or synopsis but for those of you who know the basic gist of his life story, you won't be bored because it fills in a lot of details that I a lot of people probably don't know about. The movie was actually produced by P.Diddy and B.I.G. aka Christopher Wallace's mom. I have to say Jamal Woolard, who plays Biggie, performs really well as Biggie and Anthony Mackie, who plays Tupac, is pretty exceptional as well. Derek Luke, who plays Puffy stood out of the crowd probably because he's had the biggest success in Hollywood, starring in movies such as Friday Night Lights (RB: Boobie Miles) and Antwone Fisher (Antwone "Fish" Fisher). One more thing I have to mention is how they integrated Lil'Kim and Faith Evans into the movie. The director shows how their relationships with Biggie manifested their rap/singing styles, respectively. When you watch the movie, you'll see what I mean. Anyways, I give this movie 5 out of 5. GO WATCH IT!

**Interesting Fact! Christopher Wallace, Biggie's son, actually played the part of young Biggie in the movie....hhhmmmm!

Some Inspiration to All Those at Crossroads...

So I was rereading "Einstein's Dreams" again and damn....this stuff really makes you think. For example, lately I've been thinking a lot about how different I'm living my life now and how I was living my life just a year ago. Just take a read at this short story.

From "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman

24 April 1905

In this world, there are two times. There is mechanical time and there is body time. The first is as rigid and metallic as a massive pendulum of iron that swings back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. The second squirms and wriggles like a bluefish in a bay. The first is unyielding, predetermined. The second makes up its mind as it goes along.

Many are convinced that mechanical time does not exist. When they pass the giant clock on the Kramgasse they do not see it; nor do they hear its chimes while sending packages on Postgasse or strolling between flowers in the Rosengarten. They wear watches on their wrists, but only as ornaments or as courtesies to those who would give timepieces as gifts. They do not keep clocks in their houses. Instead, they listen to their heartbeats. They feel the rhythms of their moods and desires. Such people eat when they are hungry, go to their jobs at the millinery or the chemist's whenever they wake from their sleep, make love all hours of the day. Such people laugh at the thought of mechanical time. They know that time moves in fits and starts. They know that time struggles forward with a weight on its back when they are rushing an injured child to the hospital or bearing the gaze of a neighbor wronged. And they know too that time darts across the field of vision when they are eating well with friends or receiving praise or lying in the arms of a secret lover.

Then there are those who think their bodies don't exist. They live by mechanical time. They rise at seven o'clock in the morning. They eat their lunch at noon and their supper at six. They arrive at their appointments on time, precisely by the clock. They make love between eight and ten at night. They work forty hours a week, read the Sunday paper on Sunday, play chess on Tuesday nights. When their stomach growls, they look at their watch to see if it is time to eat. When they begin to lose themselves in a concert, they look at the clock above the stage to see when it will be time to go home. They know that the body is not a thing of wild magic, but a collection of chemicals, tissues, and nerve impulses. Thoughts are no more than electrical surges in the brain. Sexual arousal is no more than a flow of chemicals to certain nerve endings. Sadness no more than a bit of acid transfixed in the cerebellum. In short, the body is a machine, subject to the same laws of electricity and mechanics as an electron or clock. As such, the body must be addressed in the language of physics. And if the body speaks, it is the speaking only of so many levers and forces. The body is a thing to be ordered, not obeyed.

Taking the night air along the river Aare, one sees evidence for two worlds in one. A boatman gauges his position in the dark by counting seconds drifted in the water's current. "One, three meters. Two, six meters. Three, nine meters." His voice cuts through the black in clean and certain syllables. Beneath a lamppost on the Nydegg Bridge, two brothers who have not seen each other for a year stand and drink and laugh. The bell of St. Vincent's Cathedral sings ten times. In seconds, lights in the apartments lining Schifflaube wink out, in a perfect mechanized response, like the deductions of Euclid's geometry. Lying on the riverbank, two lovers look up lazily, awakened from a timeless sleep by the distant church bells, surprised to find that night has come.

Where the two times meet, desperation. Where the two times go their separate ways, contentment. For, miraculously, a barrister, a nurse, a baker can make a world in either time, but not in both times. Each time is true, but the truths are not the same.

I know some people live meticulously based on a set plan, but then there are others who just live life as it comes. Living life for the future or living life for the present: I see the good and bad of both worlds. If you guys have been hanging out with me lately, you probably know which time I'm living in :D
